I'm a first-timer in Linux/Samba

I'm planning to setup a Linux box to serve as the internet server/gateway of our local network of about 70 windows PCs. I plan to install Samba in the Linux box so some users can share files and windows programs without (the windows programs) installed in each windows PC. Is this possible? Can I install the windows programs in the Linux box's shared directory or it should be on one windows PC to be shared by other users.

Is it also okay to make the Linux box serve all internet services? Because of budget constraint, only one machine the linux box, will run DNS server, DHCP, server, Mail Server, Apache, FTP, Samba and other services like IP tables. All these in one machine only. The machine is powered by Xeon 2.4 Mhz, 36 GB SCSI drive, 512 MB DDR PC-2100 ECC RAM.

1) yes ... set up the share then install to it.

2) yes ... we use Solaris (not linux but very similar) for these purposes with a uch smaller spec.

make sure that you have a firewall set up on your linux box, and make sure that samba only talks on the internal interface, and you should have no trouble at all.
