We have been running a Windows NT 4.0 Server running IIS 4.0 With Service Pack 6 applied for the past 18 months. Our problem is that IIS Keeps stopping 2+ times a day.

There is never any entries in the Windows NT Event Viewer log file. If we reboot or restart the IIS all is OK, until it goes down again. This problem has only started over the past two weeks

Any ideas? Is there any other Log files that might give us a clue into what is going on.

Thanking you in advance

Well could be alot of things an errant dll (what installed apps do you have on the server. Check the webserver log file it may show unusual activity. Check drive space, check to see if the log file is unusually large, This is usually a sign of a hacker (or a good marketing campaign) Have you installed urlscan on the server if not do it. This can also be caused by a poorly written perl script or asp file. Also check the ftp log for unusual activity.

the list goes on unfortunately, but I'd start there if the log file doesn't show enough info make sure you change it to extended logging, also there is some software for a cheap workaround that will reboot the server if the service fails (will restart the service first if it can) its called service monitor (don't sell it and I wrote my own but it works well if you don't have time to write one)
