Hi Guys and Gals

I recently had winXP pro reinstalled on my pc to fix some viruses. Since i reinstalled IIS i've had problems.

When i originally installed it i was recieving strange errors which i was told were being caused by the permissions not being correct on my machine. I changed several permissions on certain folders which solved the problem initially. However, since restarting my computer IIS is not working. The browser throws the error 'cannot find server' and i get the same error even if i test IIS by entering the default into the address bar.

does anyone know of any reason why IIS would not be working?

Any advice is much appreciated.

Regards

Elliot

I had strange problems with XP and IIS as well a year or so ago. I stumbled my way through it somehow.

The one thing that might be so obvious that you have not tried it, is the webserver set to 'start' in IIS?

Thanks

That was one of the problems that i was experiencing as it kept reverting to 'stopped' mode. I think there maybe something wrong with my copy of IIS and it is causing problems.

Seems to be working ok at the moment (keep your fingers crossed!)

Thanks again

E

I do remember being surprised that the XP and IIS combinations do not give you as much functionality as Windows 2000 and IIS. For example I think you are limited to a much fewer number of sessions that can access your
site at a time. This is OK for local development work though.

Fingers dutifully crossed.
