i have made a database and added a table but is there a way of reading data from a txt file to fill the table?

Yes, several options:

- BULK INSERT
- DTS
- bcp

In your previous post you said that you are using php perl sql server. This is a Microsoft SQL Server forum, so you may not be able to get the correct answers to your questions.
