IE7 behind Proxy, slow to pull up Google

We started to roll out IE7. We currently use Webmarshal for a proxy server. It is a basic port 8080 proxy server. Now when we go to Google or ESPN, it is terribly slow to connect. Most other websites are fine. If we bypass the proxy, no issues. Is anyone else using proxy servers and IE7 have a similar problem and/or solution?

Uncheck 'Automaticly detect settings' in Internet Options, Connections, LAN Settings.

Thanks... already tried that.

Only our proxy server can get to the Internet via port 80 and 443. So all traffic goes through it. If I put my laptop on the outside of our PIX, then it works just fine. It almost seems that the new IE7 is looking for other connections/port/etc that our proxy does not understand. Finally it times out and Google appears...about 3 minutes later.

Proxy Connectivity--If you are on a network that uses a proxy server, and you notice slowness or a problem connecting to websites after upgrading to Internet Explorer 7, it might be due to web proxy auto-detection problems. To fix these problems, follow these steps:

Open Internet Explorer, click the Tools button, and then click Internet Options.
Click the Connections tab.
Under Local Area Networks (LAN) settings, click the LAN Settings button.
Clear the Automatically detect settings check box.
Click the Use a proxy server for your LAN check box.
Type the address and port of your proxy server.
Click OK twice.
You will now be able to navigate to Internet sites.

Internet Connection Settings--If you notice a problem connecting to websites, it might be because the upgrade to Internet Explorer 7 changed your Internet connection settings from what they were set at in Internet Explorer 6. To work around the problem, follow these steps:

Open Internet Explorer, click the Tools button, and then click Internet Options.
Click the Connections tab.
Click the first entry in the Dialup and Virtual Private Networks list, and then click Settings.
Select the Automatically detect settings check box, and then click OK.
Repeat the previous two steps for each entry in the Dialup and Virtual Private Networks list.
Click the Lan Settings button in the Connections tab, and repeat steps 4-6. Click OK on the Connections tab.
Close Internet Explorer, and then restart it.

To push settings:

Also, there can be an authentication issue. Webmarshal uses NTLM. One comment from the Web: 'It seems that IE7 was trying to authenticate with the proxy using Kerberos and failing, either because the Kerberos implementation is buggy, or the proxy server is incorrectly configured. Unchecking the "Enable Integrated Windows Authentication" option in Internet Options, Advanced Settings fixed the issue. I thought that this option would have prevented IE from automatically authenticating using NTLM as well, but it appears that NTLM is unaffected."

I have been working on this for days and I got it fixed by sheer luck. I went under the Advanced tab and unchecked one of the HTTP 1.1 Settings. It worked if only one of the 2 options was checked. If they were both checked, it would take forever. With only one checked, it came up immediatly.

Thanks to all for at least getting me thinging in an IE7 setting issue rather than proxy setting.

There is a strong preference shown for using TLS instead of SSL in IE 7. (You can strongly see this preference under Vista).

By unchecking the 1.1 setting you reinforce this preference. (Be sure you unchecked both 1.1 settings under Advanced).

This is something i have come across since the forced update to IE7.
The Http 1.1 settings does have an affect on the speed of the internet so thank you to the one who found this out.

Does anyone know if this has the same problem under webmarshal 2006?

Yes. Same problem.
[li] Uncheck the "Enable Integrated Windows Authentication" option in Internet Options, Advanced Settings for Web Marshal;[/li]
[li] Uncheck both HTTP 1.1 for proxy connections and HTTP 1.1 generally.[/li]
