I don't recall the original question. was it posted here? Could you give me the link to the original? It looks like my suggestions.
Do you know when or how it happened?
Did you install anything new?
Open regedit and go to the following key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Extensions
What's listed? Look for specific names such as RealGuide, Net2Phone, Google, Hotbar, MSN Messenger, Gator, etc.
I'd suggest going to Add/Remove programs and uninstalling these if you don't want them.
Right-click on the IE desktop icon, choose properties, click the Advanced tab and uncheck "Enable third-party browser extensions".
Check only these entries (with the X):

If you're familiar with DOS, you do this:
It will totally clean everything.
Click Start, click Shut Down, click Restart In MS-DOS Mode, and then click OK.
At the command prompt, type the following commands, pressing ENTER after each command, and pressing Y if you are prompted to confirm folder deletion:
cd\windows
smartdrv
deltree cookies
deltree history
deltree tempor~1
exit
The neccessary files and folders will be rebuilt at startup.
