IE4 Welcome runs every startup even though IE5.5 is installed

I have an irritating problem with a friends PC. Every time it boots into Win95, the Internet Explorer 4 Welcome window comes up. What should happen is that you can untick the "Show this the next time you login" box and click on close, to be never bothered by this Welcome window again.

Unfortunately this keeps coming up, no matter how the IE4 Weclome window is closed down. After closing it down you can work on the PC quite happily. Internet Explorer has been upgraded at least twice since running version 4.00

Is there a registry entry, or a file to delete, or an entry in an INI file somewhere?

Try this if you like..

For suppressing Internet Explorer "splash screen" this works on my version...
Copy between lines, paste to notepad, "Save As" All Files (*.*), name it "nosplash.reg", doubleclick to merge

Funnily enough I found another fix, right after posting this thread. Rename the file welcome.exe to welcomeexe.old. It's in the path c:\program files\internet explorer. It was bugging me for weeks. A chap has got to be able to fix his girlfriend's pc. :~/

But, could you tell me if this registry entry could be adapted. To remove the splash screen for your antivirus software, for instance?
