I am having some problems with IE in xp pro. it seems to be caused from some windows updates that I installed (sp2 or some other security updates)

it will not allow any https sites to be displayed, no activex, and when browsing to a new address, an alert always pops up saying "xxxxxxxx/documents and settings/desktop is not accessable" > i click "OK" then the pages loads.

What could be causing this and is there a fix?

There's a security feature built into xp2 that doesn't allow activex features and someother features to be loaded. what you can do to prevent that is to goto into the firewall settings and modify it. one of the options is called exceptions. check https and whatever you want to allow for you fix the problems.

Thanks for the quick reply. This did not fix the problem.

even with the firewall OFF and all of the 'exceptions' allowed, i am getting the same problems.

does the change require a reboot?
