I had a computer with issues with adware and spyware.

Which I think i have sorted it. I had issues with joining it back to the network, which i fixed.

But now the internet will not work, i have set the default gateway to the correct settings.

What could i try, or what do you think i need to do in order to get it to work again....

Any help would be appreciated. thanks in advance

I assume you use your lan to connect to internet?
can you ping your proxy?
If you can, check your settings ( don't use autodetect )
-> "use a proxy for your lan" must be enabled, with the correct port and proxyname

I have tried pinging and nothing, i did not even get a requested time out!!!

We do not use a proxy server, if thats any help.

Usually when i set up an XP machine I leave the IP address and DNS settings to obtain the addresses automatically. And then in the internet settings do not have anything ticked, and this work fine with no issues.

But on the occassion where i have set these value for the IP and DNS, in the internet settings I have to tick the "Automatically detect settings" - and this works.

We have just upgraded to 2003 servers, where as our old NT4 server had a proxy server, and then i had to set this on the machines.

I am lost what to try next. I have tried everything i can think of, and probably missing something stupid...

I hope i have given you enough info.

thank you all very much, it now works with running the winsock fix.
