Hi all,

I tried to find the answer to this on MS help but
haven't found the answer yet. Maybe someone is familiar
with this.

This is completely intermittent and I can't determine
any pattern of when it happens.

Sometimes when I close a single tab, they all close and I get the "send ms an error message". Sometimes x ing out one tab just closes the tab, but that's about 2 out of 5 times.

I do all the updates and keep spyware cleaned out regularly with adaware, spybot and housecall. (xp pro sp2)

Appreciate any help or links to fix this mildly annoying
problem.

Sorry, the more complete question should have been:

Are you using the most recent version of Google Desktop Search and do you have it set to index IE's history files?

thx for the reply.

I am not using google desktop, I just open it via quick launch shortcut when I want to find something.

At least I don't think I"m using it. It would appear as a bar with Google written on it near the menu bar amd toolbar area, correct ?

Some more info about how it reacts when I click on the X on a single tab.

It immediately says "blank page" on the tab after I click on it and the MS send error message comes up at the same time.

I don't really know what GDS looks like, I don't use it. This behavior is common with GDS and it relates to IE's history files. Do you have any other utilities that might be interacting with IE's history files - history cleaning programs or anything similar?

Does this problem happen if you run IE in 'no add-ons' mode?

Hi thx for that info. I think we're on to something with managing add ons.

I disabled about 6 items that I didn't think I needed and
when I opened about 5 windows, they all closed one by one like they're supposed to. After the last window was closed and IE wasn't in use, I tried again to verify that it was a fix. Oops, now each shortcut opens its own window instead of tabbing. I'll keep messing with it, and do a one by one
and check each time.

thx
good call

update and thanks again to smah

After a reboot, I got my tabs back instead of individual windows opening and closing single tabs worked normally.

I started to add back 6 add-ons that I disabled to determine which one might have caused the problem and it was the first one that I re enabled. I use Netzero dial up for a backup system to my broadband cnx and when I turned the add on back on, the problem came back. In case anyone might encounter this someday, the add-on was:
Popup-Blocker Class/Netzero, Inc./Browser Helper Object/X1IEBHO.dll

A star for figuring it out & posting the soltution for others. It might be interesting to see if there's a newer version of this add-in that might not have this problem.
