I'm trying to make a new dialup connection after I do the following steps:

1- control panel\ Network and Dial up connection\Make New connection\Dial up to Internet\next\ I want to setup my internet connection manually\I connect through a phone line and a modem\internet account connection information

when i want to choose country\region name and code It generates the following error:

icwconn1.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows.

Does anybody heard about this?
and how should i fix it?
thanks

Unless you have a nic to enable interface with DSL/Cable modem you don't need the DUN...the dialup settings can be set up in Internet Options/Connections.
The error message relates to the Connection Wizard exec itself icwconn1.exe. If you get it even when going thru Internet Options, (if you're running Win98)...go to
Start/Programs/Assessories/System Tools/System Information...and in the dialog box pick the tools tab and you should see "Internet Explorer Repair Tool".
Some OS's don't have it...and you may need to resort to an overwrite of the files that are there to freshen them.

In fact my problem is that I have a High speed DSL modem and I would like to set up my dial up modem to send faxes. But I can't set up my modem. I posted my problem before and I got many hints and helps but the problem is still here. That's why I tried to make a new internet connection manually to set up my modem, andthen I got this error message:

icwconn1.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows.

That's why I think this message is related to my dial up problem.

My laptop is a IBM Thinkpad A22m and it has an "Intel Pro 100 SP Mobile Combo Adapter"It is a combo
card with the Intell 10/100 Ethernet Lan and a Lucent 56k V.90 Fax Modem and my OS is windows2000 professional.

I checked in the BIOS, there is non information about the modem.

UNTIL you see the modem in Device Manager you'll have no luck getting DUN to work.

Followed the other thread you started and am prompted to ask...you DID get the nic to work with DSL modem?

Not seeing the modem probably means you still have a driver install problem.

BIOS would only see the IRQ for the modem...not the device.
Ports may be an issue in the BIOS...make sure they're all set to automatic.

You do have the BIOS set to plug and play? IRQ assignments set to automatic there?

My DSL has it's own modem, and works perfectly.
I downloaded the necessary drivers for my Adapter and Modem from IBM web site, and I have I have my modem in Device Manager.

IN BIOS I have:

serial Port enabled.
I/O address and IRQ 3F8 IRQ4

Parallel Port enabled
I/O adress and IRQ 3BC IRQ7

do these help?
