ICQ & XP don't cooperate?

Has anyone noticed that ICQ 2000b and XP don't get along? Interesting symptoms too...I can't load an existing ICQ number to work...only can create new ones. And after a couple of days, the new one doesn't work anymore. So then I create another new one...and so on.

It almost seems like Microsoft is recognizing (throught the net) that I have it and disabling it.

Need mor info. but 1. if your networked XP auto install a Firewall... XP pro is in and out Firewall.... XP home is only 1 way firewall Incomming..the members my forum i help moderate have found its ICQ's fault trying to use port(s) that XP firewall has blocked .disable the firewall or configure it for ICQ to work properly. assuming that ur behind a firewall and networked...hope this helps. I have probs with ICQ also...ICQ is presently creating a ICQXP...I am waiting for that release!!

This doesn't directly address your problems, but, depending on how you use ICQ, I would recommend Trillian (

http://www.trillian.cc).

It lets you use ICQ, YM, AIM, MSN, & IRC simultaneously. It's more stable than ICQ -- not nearly as flaky. It's also not as bloated. And it's free! However, it doesn't include the kitchen sink and coffeemaker of ICQ, so if you use ICQ for a lot of non-IM functions (file transfer, reminders, email, etc.) Trillian probably isn't for you. But if you use ICQ primary for talking with people, you might want to check it out.

Oh, and by the way, I've been using Trillian on XP Home for a couple weeks now and it runs great!
