Icons in Network Connections diappeared

Hello I am trying to set up a wireless LAN using a Fujitsu Lifebook C series notebook. The notebook already has a network card and it works fine.
I installed the wireless PCMCIA nic card and to my astonishment when I go to network connections in the control panel there are no icons at all....not even for the onboard nic card that is working fine.
Any suggestion would be appreciated.

Are there any network adapters listed in Device Manager (right click My Computer, Properties, Hardware) and if so what are their status ?

Thankyou for your reply Paulreg, however in the device manager everything is fine. Under network connections (in Device manager) I can see both nic cards (wireless and normal). They are functional ie. no conflict and working fine. As I said the nic sees the network. However I cannot set IP addresses as network connections is the only way to do that as far as I know.

regsvr32 netshell.dll
regsvr32 netcfgx.dll
regsvr32 netman.dll
