Icon missing from System tray 1

The network connection icon has 'buggered off' from my system tray. has this happened to anyone else?
Why did this happen?
How do I get it back?

Has the relevant checkbox become unchecked in the Start Menu (right-click)/ Properties/ Notification Area?
