Icon in taskbar for local area connection,not always there? 1

Hi I have the check mark in the box for (Show icon in notification area when connected) for the local area connection.Problem is it's not always there?? 1st bootup not there,if I reboot it's there,reboot again not there,Wierd cause the connection works fine,it's dsl and is always connected even if the icon is not there,.the only other things I have in the right lower task bar is,weatherbug,volume,ati remote wonder,Logetech Setpoint,Pop Peeper for E-mail,PcCillin,and printer.......icon for connection dosen't always comeup,??I have hide interactive icons unchecked off.Anyone know how I can fix this 1 Icon not always comming up?or should I just turn it off and not worry about it? the connection works just fine.Thanks

It seems to be a problem with XP. I've found that even though I check the box that says to show it, it doesn't always show. Works fine on W2K. It doesn't even show when you switch off the icon hiding thing.
 
Thankyou for all the info,excellent help.I think I found the problem,I had 2 installations of weatherbug installed somehow.I uninstalled all of weatherbug and all references to it in the registry.then reinstalled the latest ver.and all icons are comming up fine now.Thankyou for all the help,and Happy Holidays to you and all of yours.
 
I am curious as to why people want it enabled in the first place, especially in a home environment. If you make it so it only appears when there's a problem with the connection, you'll still know when you need to reset your box or whatever. Having it on when it's working fine seems silly IMO...
