Hi all,
This Thinkpad 600 has sound using headphones but no sound on system speakers when headphones are not in use.

I have the sound to the highest setting in volume control in task bar and have checked all of the volume controls and nothing is muted. I have also used the volume up keys on keyboard.

Any ideas? thanks for any help

I have seen the wires for the speakers break on this model, Can also check to see if the cable has come unplugged from the board. Go to ibm.com, under support for the machine type, look for HMM it's the maintence manual, and will show you how to remove the palm rest, which is where the speakers are located. If headphones work, it is not volume,or driver related, it is speaker related. or the headphone jack itself is bad.

Thanks rclarke for the quick response, I will give that a try
