hey,
was wordering if anyone else might have come across this. we are running ans AS/400 v5R1 with the clients and a laser printer running on TCP/IP and some other dumb terminals and the rest of our printers running on Twinaxial connections.

About every mounth the printers on Twinax don't want to wake up from sleep mode with a job running in the queue to print. the only way to fix it is to put the printer offline and then act as if I'm resetting the page. Then it "Wake up" and the printer works ans processes the job.

sometimes, if I wait too long to get it back up again, the printer actually loses commumication completely and I have to power it off and back on again for the server to see it.

Anyone else get problems like this or know a answer to my dilemma?

thanks in advance

Hi,

I remember there being some issues with Printronix (I think) Twinax and/or Ethernet cards that were faulty. IBM will probably try to replace that card first if you call them. Depending on the printer you have, that may be a culprit.

I had a similar issue with a 6400 printer that would lose communication in the middle of something. They replaced a lot of parts until I finally had them replace the main board. This was under V4R4 and I'm at V5R1, hoping the problem won't be popping up again! J.R.

I'm having a similar problem....things have been fine for many, many months...then recently, different times of the day, different days, during different reports, the printer will stop in the middle of a job....we have a card in the printer that allows us to print from twinax (AS/400) and network (AIX V5R1). If you press the Stop button, the LED displays it can't cancel the job (DATA IN BUFFER)..if you press Start, the Processing lamp lights...but nothing is happening. In AIX, lpstat shows the printer RUNNING...the only way I can correct it is to end the job in AIX, turn the printer off/on and reprint. I called IBM...they sent a new control panel. That didn't fix it....I'll be giving them another call.

This is a wild guess, but perhaps it's something to do with V5R1? I have a new iSeries with the same printers connected to it under V5R2, and have had none of these issues to speak of. I did have them earlier (I was using the Twinax interface, not Ethernet), but so far all joy.

Hi...for me, it's print jobs from my AIX (V5R1)server. I've had AIX V5R1 for over a year....and this printer doesn't do much AS/400 printing anymore...this printing issue has only occurred the past month or so...I wonder if it isn't a board...IBM thought the panel was sending a wrong signal to the printer...telling it it was done when it wasn't...so they sent us a new contrraol panel.
