Hello,

I have had the IBM Desktar 60GB drive for quite sometime now and have not had any real problems. The only problems that I have noticed is that each time I try to boot up my pc, it will kick me to the BIOS menu stating that there was an internal frequency error. After being in the menu for sometime, i just exit out of it and restart the machine and everything boots up fine.

Today however, when my pc is trying to boot up I get the following message: "A Disk Read Error Occurred", it then asks me to restart. Each time I try, i get this message.

I'm runny Windows XP, so I tried to see what the problem may be by using the "Recovery Console". When I get the C: prompt, I try to use the "DIR" command and I get the error: "An Error Occurred During Directory Enumeration".

Any suggestions or help can be highly appreciated...I would hate to think that my hard drive just crapped out on me and all of my info is now lost.

What model is it? Not a 75GXP by any chance? they were big trouble about 18months ago.
Either way you should be under warranty??
IBM have a harddrive diagnostic tool on there website, give it a spin and see if it turns up anything. Martin Please let members know if there advice has helped any.

Hello,

I was able to get the diagnostic tool from IBM and ran it. After doing a quick test, It stated that there may be one or more bad sectors detected and asked If i would like to repair them. I clicked on that option, and when it attempted to run the program, it crashed and froze. It seems like it keeps doing this as if it is having problems maybe accessing the hard drive.

I also noticed that when I attempted to connect another hard drive that I had which is a Maxtor, it detected it as an IBM hard drive. Does this make any sense? Now i'm wondering if it is my hard drive or if it may be the motherboard or maybe even the IDE cable?

Any further suggestions would be appreciated.

try putting the drive in another computer as a slave. If you are still having problems, I'd contact a data recovery company and get your data back. We use Southwest Stars for ours, but they are cheaper than most - I guess we are just money concious these days.

Good luck!
