Why would an I2004 user have to press in-calls or dn key and the headset button to answer calls? When the call is released the headset button goes dark and they must repeat this again to answer a call.

Shouldn't have to press both keys... If you press the HEADSET key to start with, it should pick up the ringing DN or in-calls (just like if you picked up the handset).

Or, you can program the "On hook default path" to headset rather than handsfree, and when you hit a DN or in-calls, it will use the headset rather than speakerphone. (That's a setting for the 3904, but I think it's on the i2004 as well. Under Options on the phone.) Be aware that this affects anything that would normally go to the speakerphone as well, such as automatic answerback on Intercom or Voice Call.

I have the default on hook path set to "headset enabled".

Look at a new phone. I just installed some of these and remembered that there is a "Headset Nofication" card in the new phones, that states which phones will work seamlessly and which ones will not.

I should have kept the card.

I have numerous i2004's (Phase 1 and Phase 2) that have headsets working fine. I have GN Netcom headsets that plug directly into the headset port on the bottom of the phone. As long as the "on-hook default path" is set to "headset enabled" they work fine. When calls come in, they just press the flashing line key and the call is answered using the headset. They do not have to press the Headset button every time.

Some of our users who used to have a 2616 with headset requiring an amplifier unit sitting beside the phone were in the habit of removing their handset from the cradle and using the release key to end their calls. Make sure your users are leaving the handset in the cradle when using their headset with the i2004's. Having the handset out of the cradle may mess up the default path.
