I think this has been answered in a previous post but could you please clarify.

I am currently backing up my Exchange server using Arcserve 2000 with the Exchange agent. What am I meant to backup to be able to do a full restore?!

I am currently backing up:
1 The server Registry
2 The Microsoft Information Store
3 The Microsoft Site Replication server
4 The Exchange Brick Level

Is this too much to backup or can I get away with loosing some of this out of the backup. THe problem is I am running out of tape space!!!!

Are we talking full restore of the OS or the Exchange DB???

Is this NT4.0 or Win2k

if it is NT...
system partition
Registry
Exchange Databases (online Backup)

for Win2k
System partition
System State
Exchange Databases (online Backup)

This would be enough to rebuid the server...

Sorry missed the vitals out!!

I only want to backup Exchange. I have the OS CD's so in a worse case situation where the server needed a complete restore (I hope it never happens!!!) I would reload the OS from the CD's then install Exchange, then reload the backup tape with Exchange on it.

My OS is Windows 2000 advanced server on both the exchange server and the arcserve server.

Thanx for the info...

YOu would be able to get back your exchange server as long as you have a successful online Database backup..

Exch 5.5
IS/DS

Exchange 2000
Microsoft Information Store

Restore
Exchange 5.5

restore the server with the SAME (case sensitive, space sensitive)

Same Organization & site

Exchange 2000
Same Organization


you should be able to restore without a problem
