Can you tell me please what router to buy that supports multiple PPTP pass-through connections.
I have a RAS server (NT 4.0) configured for VPN connections and have a linksys router (BEFSR11) as a gateway to the internet (DSL).
This router only allows only one pass-through connection at a time and I need at least 15 connections simultaneously.
Linksys recommended me to upgrade the firmware which they say would fix the issue, but it didn't.

The type of router that I need is one that allows:

DSL connection to the internet
Supports Static IP
Able to change the internal IP Schema
IP Forwarding - at least 10
Multiple VPN Connections (multiple PPTP pass-through)

Thanks in advance,

Aldi

with pass-thru PPTP i assume you mean that the PPTP ports are mapped to a certain machine on your network? If so, that means the router must have a port mapping(forwarding) capability of at least 25-30 entries. I think there are plenty routers out there that can handle that. Zyxel has a good assortment of routers,

Thanks pmf71,
Yes, pptp is mapped to another machine on the network.
Just for clarification in case anybody has later the same problem. Some routers support multiple vpn connections but these routers are endpoints meaning that they act as vpn servers, but in my case I have a machine on the network as my VPN server and I only need the router to forward connections through the pptp port, but allowing multiple pass-through connections.
Talking to Linksys support they told me that none of the routers allows multiple pptp pass-through connection even though the routers support multiple VPN customized channels.

I hope the explanation above is clear enough and helps to somebody in the future.

NB: The router that I found and those the work is a D-Link DI-804V

Cheers

We just recently did this for a customer using the netopia 3346-ent router. It allows up to 15 simultaneous conntctions as well as it has the faster processor to support pptp with ms-chap and encryption. It also holds the vpn profiles and therefore we do not need a server on the inside providing the authentiacaiton.

Aldi, I have the same problem, i have NT server working as a VPN server. Locally I have D-Link DI-701 for my internet connection. The server allows multiple connections to come in which i have tested. I need to setup a remote office with more than one computer doing VPN into my office. The router I have at the remote office allows only one VPN. Are you telling me using the D-Link DI-804V i can make more than one computer connect to my VPN thru the same router. I am trying to configure the remote office now. Please advise, thanks.

hamzajosh,

As per d-link support team di-804v allows 40 pptp pass-through simultaneous connections.
I have one di-804v at the main office and it allows multiple pass-through connections from different points.
Now I am waiting for a d-804hv that I ordered because di-804v is discontinued.
I was told by d-link support that this model would do the job; actually they told me that any of the d-link routers would do it, contrary to linksys routers which confirmed that their routers don't support multiple pass-through.

What type of router do you have at the remote office?

I have a pronet router which i just bought but i am returning it and needed advice on buying a new one. I guess the D-Link router will work for me. Their site also shows DI-804 available for $75 as i post this reply.

another good option is to trash the NT vpn server, get a draytek router which has a vpn server on board, there are several models, i have experience with the vigor 2600, works very nicely and support at least 10 simultaneous connections, and gives you a client to gateway PPTP or L2TP tunnel thru which you can reach the whole remote network. The vigors also support gateway to gateway tunneling, i have managed to get a gateway to gateway tunnel working with a vigor 2600 on one end, and a windows 2000 machine acting as a internet gateway on the other end, using an IPSec policy.

i will keep that in mind, thank you.
