I must have installed a program or something that screwed up my system fonts because it seems like all my Active window text areas appear bold, which screws up the display of all the windows.

There is not a way to change this under the Appearances advanced button that I can see. My font size is set to normal and I am using windows XP style default. Under settings/advanced Display my dpi setting is normal 96.

Has anyone had this problem? If so, how did you fix it?

Does anyone know how to re-install fonts on windows xp as this could possibly solve it?

Check the Help and Support program and type "Fonts" in the search box. See if there is anything in there. Have a look at the article on "Clear type" (what ever that is) maybe you have made an error in your settings.

Have you tried using System Restore to get back to when your fonts were as you liked?

System File Checker is an option also. (SFC.exe /Scannow) and have your XP Cd handy.

You could also repair XP by running the Setup of XP and let it re-install over itself. If you do this you will have to reload any Windows updates but your other data will be intact.

Thanks for your quick reply Linney.

I am sorry I didn't say that I already read all through microcraps website and no luck. I found some hints though. I was thinking it had something to do with this article Q282187 regarding FontSubstitutes in the registry, which talks about system locales and different font mappings. But, I checked my registry and the couldn't find anything that appeared out of wack?

I tried a system restore on a couple of different dates and it wouldn't restore. This option didn't work!

The Sfc scan -now I haven't tried and am trying as I am writing this. This might work. I will let you know.

I don't think I would do a re-install over as I never have had much luck with re-install overs. If I cannot get anything else to work, I am going to wipe my machine out and then start from scratch again.

Thanks for you help again.
I will let you know if the sfc scan worked!

The Sfc Scan didn't work, so perhaps someone else might have had this problem? If not, in the next couple of days I will be wiping out my machine and starting fresh!

One of the reasons System Restore would fail is that it cannot find a correct and safe point to restore to, indicating that there is something wrong with windows on your machine. In which case re-installing windows is required. I have used the "run over" method myself to repair windows, but if you don't want to do that, a full re-install then should solve your problem.

I have the exact problem and have posted to several sites. No one has come up with a solution yet. This is on my server so I would really rather find out what setting or registry entry to change. I have tried to reinstall fonts. This problem only affects the system fonts, not true type fonts.
