I am a freelance journalist for a computer magazine and have recently been testing Graphic Tablets. I am running Windows XP-Home and Internet Explorer 6, including service pack. One tablet I tested, which was made by Nisis, was completely incompatible with XP Home, which crashed every time I tried to use the tablet. I have restored the system but am now having trouble with three things:-

1. The system will not PRINT from Internet Explorer or Outlook Express. It doesn't do anything when I try to print an e-mail or webpage information. The printer is OK and prints in Word and all other programs. It's just in IE and Outlook Express. Just to be sure I have reinstalled the Printer drivers, but no luck there either.

2. I have lost the SEARCH facilty in XP? SEARCH refuses to open. Everthing else seems to be OK. Any idea where SEARCH is within XP or what I can do to regain SEARCH?

3. I can't open web pages from LINKS within an e-mail, or some links on an actual web page. I have to copy and paste the adrress in Google, and it then opens OK.

I think I have done I can think of including a Scan, Restore - it refuses to do this to any date which would clear me of the problem? I have also reinstalled IE6 but it has made no difference at all.

I think it's time to see if any of you guys and gals can offer any advice please.

Can anyone help me please. Thanks.

You might check to see if you have some kind of popup stopper installed. I've seen this prevent opening of hyperlinks within email. Not sure if it may affect the print function also. Some free popup stoppers downloaded off the 'net can do some flaky things.

Search function should show up when you click the Start button.

Hi bygeek,
Thanks for that.
1.I do have a popup stopper but it's set to 'off'. I've even closed it down but there is no difference at all.

2.The SEARCH function does show up when I click the Start button but it's inactive. When I click on it nothing happens.

3.I've checked the location of the SEARCH function on my laptop and found it. It's in C: Programs/Common Files/Microsoft Shared. I then copied it to a floppy and added it to the SEARCH file, rebooted, but it is still inactive.

Have you got any more ideas please. Thanks

The next thing I would do is remove all spyware and adware using SpyBot and Ad-aware. Make sure you download all the updates before you scan. See the FAQ's under the Virus-Spyware forum for links and advice.

Open a notepad session, and copy/save the below as ie_fix.cmd

regsvr32 urlmon.dll
regsvr32 Shdocvw.dll
regsvr32 Msjava.dll
regsvr32 Actxprxy.dll
regsvr32 Oleaut32.dll
regsvr32 Mshtml.dll
regsvr32 Browseui.dll
regsvr32 Shell32.dll

Double-click ie_fix.cmd and answer the prompts. Reboot.

Any idea please about the PRINT and SEARCH problems? Thanks.

bcaster and bygeek -
Thanks for all you help. You'll be pleased to know that the other two items that went 'AWOL' have now mysteriously returned and are working with no problem! Don't know why, but I guess that's computers for you!!
Thanks again for all of your help: much appreciated.
