Hello,
Well here I go I have been working in a enviroment where our main DNS server is hosted by our ISP and my local DNS is located on my PDC (My-PDC) and is AD integrated. I also have a internal Exchange server with DNS bieng replicated.
Now all of the sudden my boss (the owner) wnats to bring everything in-house to include the Main DNS server, All web sites and the Exchange MX record.
So I set up a lab with the exact duplicate of my internal network. 1 - PDC (My-PDC) and 1 Exchange server (My-Mail).
I installed a new computer to be the DNS server (My-DNS) and set it to primary but it wasn't getting populated. so I went to My-PDC DNS settings and set MY-DNS in the name serer tab. then went back to My-DNS and set it as secondary, this populated MY-DNS DNS. I then set MY-DNS to primary and set MY_PDC to secondary. Reset the DHCP to olny give out the IP address of MY_DNS server and log in as a client - all worked and I was able to access the internet.
So did I do it right or is it all wrong?
What about WEB pages? Can the outside world access them?
How do I test the DNS with the production network still running behind a firewall (and so is the lab)?
Any help deserves a beer - oh make it a case and of course my dying gratitude.
