Thats it...
I have 1-256mb pc133 in slot1
1-128mb pc133 in slot2
1-128mb pc133 in slot3
Bios message comes up during start up and says something
to the effect of:

"bios has found four rows of pc133 ram, if you want to continue ram will be initialized at 100. Do you want to continue? y/n."

If you choose no, it reboots and you cant go into the bios set up. If yes, windows starts up, again, it wont let you go into bios set up, (i hit delete and million times)...and when windows opens it just sees 260mbRAM???

Im running intel board and P3 733...windows 2000.
the mb's supposed to hold up to 1.5gigRAM...

SO i dont know whats up!!!

someone please help...!
thanks.

There's a RAM problem, and it won't run at 133mhz, so it's telling you that you can run 256 (260) OK at 133mhz, or you can reinitialize it to 100mhz and use all of it. Cheers,
Jim

First of all, Thank you comtech for posting and trying to help me out...i was beginning to think no one would help me...(ive had others posts that havnt been answerd)
So thank you!

--what do you mean "theres a ram problem?"

does that mean theres a physical ram problem, in other words, i need to return my brand new ram to where i bought it?

---------------

When I tried to reinitialize it, it STILL ONLY READS 260.

BUT, I took care of my bios problem already anyways, BIOS is now reading 512mb ram at 133 each, and is no longer prompting me to reinitialize anything.
BUT, win2k is still not reading 512 but only 260...

So, thats where im at now...

AGAIN THANK YOU COMTECH for helping out...please repost if you can still help...or direct me to where i can get help...

THANKs in adviance to anyone who helps me out here.

xsevenx.

something else...

i noticed at the bottom of my task manager it says

" Mem Usage: 85084k/583180k "

does that mean that I have 583,180k or 583mbRAM ??

I noticed under physicle memory (k) it says

"total: 261424k "
or 261 mb ram...

SO, can anyone tell me if windows2k is recongnizing my 512mb of ram...or is it only seeing 261mb or ram...???

PLEASE HELP.xsevenx

The 85084k/583180k numbers means that you have 583Mb of memory available including swap file.

Your OS still only see's 260Mb of memory, and from your original posts it sounds like it's seeing the 2 128Mb chips

"bios has found four rows of pc133 ram, if you want to continue ram will be initialized at 100. Do you want to continue? y/n."

4 rows = 2 rows of DIMMS. Take out the 256Mb chip, reboot and see what BIOS and W2K say. If they both report 256Mb of memory then move one of the 128MB chips into the slot you took the 256 out of and see what that says. If it reports only 128 then DIMM slot 1 is not working - motherboard problem. If it still reports 256 then try the 256Mb chip in the slot you had the 128Mb chip in. If this fails then I suspect the 256Mb chip may be dead.

Let us know the outcome.

That's where I'd start, move the chips around, and see what BIOS and windows report as physical RAM.
It could be a bad RAM chip, it could be a bad slot, or it could be not quite seated right. Cheers,
Jim
