I cannot logon to my administrators account or any one!
I do not run a network. Is there any passwords i can try to get on?

Be more specific. Do you get an error? What does it say? Does it not like the password? Did this JUST happen? What was the last thing you did on the machine?

Sean.

If you are having problems logging on to your win2000 and have forgoten your admin password (on you local machine that is) there is a little linux program that alows you to go in and change the admin password to anything you want, once thats done login as usual with that new password. The programs name is NT2K.

Don't you have to be running Linux on the same machine? Or can it be done via a Netork?

Sean.

I cant network! And don't want to use linux. Is there a code or something? More specific... I get an error message!

It can be very difficult for us to guess what the error message might be. If you don't network and it's a personal machine, have you forgotten your password, or was it not set? Have you installed any other software?

Or is the machine a new purchase?

Robert,

What does the error message say? Is it the same for all user logons?

You dont have to run linux on the machine to run this program. It's just a little Dos program that goes in and changes your password to what ever you set it to be. The program it self is linux based.

Eric db

PS: I am not a Linux user my self but I have used it on client machines that has lost there admin password and it works fine.

Eric,

The password reset may be fine (I know it works - have used it too) - but, for example, the problem may be that all the accounts are disabled (this happened on my daughter's PC), in which case changing the password is no good. That's why we'd like to know what error message(s) he's getting before being able to advise properly.

wolluf is right ,,
and also it may help for a stand alone pc , but not in a domain based PC ! Mohamed Farid

You are right that knowing the error message would help.
(How did you solve your daughter's PC problem?)

Eric - my daughter's fix.

Removed the SAM file and did a repair reinstall - it wouldn't boot with SAM file removed (it was actually XP - but luckily I'd left an old drive with 2k on in the machine so I could get access to XP's ntfs filestore). This after trying lots of things with the linux password resetter (as didn't know ALL accounts were disabled till I'd tried logging on with them all), repair reinstall without removing SAM (had no effect). Couldn't use recovery console as Administrator account disabled.

for 2nd time :)

The error message... (Or something to the effect of)

The system could not log you on. Make sure your username and password are correct, then try again. Make sure that your username and, or password are in the correct case.

I have tried all of this... and nothing works

I know this seems simple, but sometimes those are the answers....

When my users are having probs logging in I always first have them type their password in the username field to verify that it looks alright (Caps, keys not working, numlock).

Just a thought....
