I am running Windows 98 with Outlook Express 5 on my Laptop, and until recently all was well. However, now I can't send out e-mails with 'Word' attachments, and am having to cut and paste the terxt to the main body of the e-mail to get them out. Has anyone got any idea what the problem might be please.
Oh yes, I'm also running AVG Anti Virus Program - Free version and have recently updated to the latest amendment dated 3-11 04. I don't know if there's any connection but all was well until the latect update. Thanks.

You say you can't send e-mails... What exactly happens, any errors, lockups, etc... Exact details please.

Matt J.

Please always take the time to backup any and all data before performing any actions suggested for ANY problem, regardless of how minor a change it might seem. Also test the backup to make sure it is intact.

Hi mattjurado.
Thanks for the reply. It appears that the e-mail has been sent, it comes up in the sent box, but the recipiante doesn't receive it at all.
I have tried a test, sending myself an e-mail from my hotmail account to the outlook account, and it just doesn't arrive.
Any ideas please? Thanks.

Hi mel;
Hate to say it, but maybe a macro virus in the Document..It seems that the filters on the servers are blocking "something" from going thru..
Do you use macros ?????
If not you can probably delete your Normal.dot file (possibly corrupted)and reboot and it'll get rebuilt on next Opening of Word.

Are you're HTML settings in OE set to accept/send html...(I don't allow it in my mail), but the Word doc may probably being converted to HTML maybe....or are you sending as .doc?

Are you updated with security patches?

Read the mail headers for clues on the Incoming mail you've sent yourself...(blocked attachment, whatever)

Hotmail may not allow certain attachments too???

Don't like Outlook or OE for the vulnerabilities...
Everything legit, that may be causing the prob here,

Have now found that one of the ISP Attributes had been changed from Archive to Read Only.
I've put it right and everything is OK again.
Thanks for all of your help guys and gals, much appreciated.
