What am I missing?

I've created a database. Created an mdw to go with it. I have a shortcut that starts Access, my database and uses my mdw. That all works great. If I use the shortcut, I'm prompted for the user name and password. If I don't give the correct info - I can't get in. Perfect!

The problem is - I can go straight to the database.mdb and open it with out it using the .mdw. I went to tools-security-workgroup administrator and joined to my .mdw. I'm perplexed. Did I miss a step?

Have you secured your database? In Access 2000 and later, you have a wizard which sets up workgroup security for you. Until you do this, your databaae is 'open', so you can log straight into it. This allows you to do your initial development, then add security when you are ready.

The wizard can be started from the Tools ... Security ... User Level Security Wizard menu option.

There are some good articles in Tek-Tips about security implementation ... worth searching for!
