Dear Anyone.
I have XP and 98 as a dual boot system. I wish I hadn't installed XP now, I can't stand it - it crashes more often than a blind man in a destruction derby (which is what software can resemble by the time it's finished with it!!) it isn't backwardly compatible with 98 software (I know it's got emulator modes, but they're useless - for instance, I've got Lotus suite Millennium and the emulator runs the spreadsheet and the database, but WONT run the word processor for love nor money! The same goes for all my other software - VERY hit and miss.
Anyway.
The prob. is, I can't download. I'm on the Net, I have no firewall on and all my security's on low, and every time I try to download, or stream audio, or listen to MP3's, or do anything remotely similar to the above, I get the following error message.
Internet Explorer was not able to open this internet site. The requested site is unavailable or cannot be found. Please try again later.
And I'm SITTING on the site, LOOKING at what I'm trying to download, and the system STILL can't find it!!??!!
Is this a known problem with XP (one of the many hundreds, considering all the patches I'm asked to download every evening - which of course I can't download....)
The odd thing is, that I can still download E-mails and their attachments. Like.... you could E-mail me an MP3 (for instance) and I could download it. But I couldn't download the same MP3 from its website!!
Please - any ideas? I'm completely out - I've tried all the settings I can think of anywhere in the system, and still zilch luck.
XP isn't a virus - it's a one program disease!! The only reason I'm keeping it at all is that ever since I've had it, 98 has been unable to find my modem!! I've reinstalled it into 98 (NOT into XP!) several times, but 98 still doesn't believe I have one. If you can tell me how to make 98 believe I've got a modem again, XP will be into the nearest skip at warpspeed.
Yours in pure frustration
Chris
