I have small office network of 5 computers. 3 run Win2k, 1 runs Win98SE and the other XP Professional. Problem: One of my 2k computers can not join the domain. I have check the TCP/IP settings, no problem with any of the information. Everything is identical except the IP address, which is static. The message I continue to get when attempting to join the domain is; Invalid domain, Domain can not be found or does not exist. I can ping the server. I have checked the computer name in Active Directory and user names, passwords, etc. Everything appears to be in order. But, the computer is only seen in a WORKGROUP. Can someone offer me some possible solutions?

Thanx

What version of Windows is your domain controller? There is an issue with trying to join Windows 2000 machines to an NT 4 domain, because of a lack of an SRV record for the domain.

set the DNS settings statically on the w2kpro machine or a default gateway pointing to the server.

I had a similar problem when trying to join to a domain called houston.local. I would fill that in in the properties and I got the exact same error. When I left off the .local and simply called it houston, Welcome to the Houston domain!
