Hi this is a major problem and I hope someone can help!

Athlon computer
Windows ME
NTL Broadband 600K
Browser Internet Explorer 5.5
Also Netscape Navigator 7

Firstly I cannot log into my Yahoo email account as every time I try I can get to the Yahoo mail page but when I attempt to open my email I get cannot find server.

I have even tried signing up to other email accounts like lycos and hotmail but when I try to sign up I get cannot find server.

I have Zone alarm but I took that off
I have real player but took that off as well
I did an online virus check that came back clean

Nothing seems to work does anyone have any ideas!

I can surf the net ok it's just that I cannot sign up to or read any email

Non technical explanations appreciated please.

Also contacted NTL who reckoned my account is configured ok

I take it occurs whether you open Netscape or IE 5.5?
Just asking preliminary question

I was just thinking maybe your ports are closed due to a virus..unfortunately some of those online scans dont always work the way they should

Hi azpctech01

I have tried just about everything including different versions of IE nothing but nothing seems to work, so as you say I must have a bug somewhere but I can't find it.

Hello Megawhat
I very much doubt if you have a bug much more likely to be a glitch with your ISP email server.

Auto detect isn't finding it at the moment though it will probably correct itself eventually.

Here is what to do.

(1) phone your ISP tech support and ask them for the address of their email server in your area and write it down
it will just be a load of numbers but don't let that confuse you!

(2) Click Tools/internet options/connections/Lan settings/tick use proxy server/type in the Server numbers and Port numbers given to you by your ISP click ok/click ok

Then it WILL WORK! and you can access your email as normal, sign up to other emails and do whatever you like.

You could change back to auto detect when they have the original server back on line again but there is really no need to do so unless this proxy server has a problem.

cheers for now
this will definately work!
