Sean - - Is your XP disc a recovery disc or a retail disc of XP? - Also, is it home edition or Pro? - If a retail disc then is SP1 on it?

Let me know . . .

it is a retail disc of XP pro and i have installed sp1 it is the forst thing i install wen i format but it frezzes befor it can finish installing

Okay Sean - - Process of elimination here. A few questions to clarify first.

1 When you say it works for 10 - 20 mins and then freezes do you mean the operating system (XP) was fully loaded and then froze?

2 Or does it freeze 10 - 20 mins into installation?

3 Did you boot from a floppy or from the CD rom?

4 Are you in a position where you have backed your work up and do not mind f-disking and reformatting?

it is fully loaded and then frezzes
booted from cd rom
every time i hav reinstalled xp i hav formatted
so ye i can reinstall

i format with the xp cd do i need 2 do f disk it??

Fdisk Sean. - XP has a method of installing a few files onto a partition and dynamite won't move them!!!
When you have Fdisked, make sure you reboot and then re-format. When you get to 99% of drive c and it gives you the choice of 11 labels, press enter for none. Switch off M/C via the power button. Go and have a coffee, come back and on bootup, go to run, type fdisk /status and make sure it shows 100%. (Note the space after fdisk and before /)

If necessary, configure bios to boot from CD and try to install again.

Check thread779-748210 to see if it may be related.
I had 3 customers with 9800 driver problems in XP too.
Remove the card if possibel and put in an older one or use the built in if present to test.
