Hello,

I created a shortcut to a word document that contains hyperlinks.

When I opened the document using the shortcut on my desktop the hyperlinks do not work.

I receive the edit: "Cannot open specified file".

When I place the mouse over each hyperlink the system displays the correct drive location.

Do I need to change a setting to allow the hyperlinks or do I have to remap each link?

When you created the hyperlink did you have the 'Use relative path for hyperlink' checkbox selected (that is the default)?

This will cause the hypelink to fail if the doc is opened with a differnt working directory.

Try a test on another document where the smae hypelink is created, one with the relative setting on, the other with it off.

You will soon see if my guess is correct.

Hi guys,
Eavesdropping on your question, i have this same problem with Office 2000, and cannot find the Use Relative Path for Hyperlink option ANYWHERE! What am I missing?

Thanks for your help,
MrsTFB in Tennessee

MrsTFB,

It's the little check box in the lower left hand corner of the "Insert Hyperlink" window that pops up when you go to Insert>Hyperlink.
