I have a 60-user office using exchange 2000. Just got a message in the event log that my priv1.edb reached it's max size - 16 gig! I had everyone trim mailboxes and notched up my warning at 150meg to restricting send/receive at 155meg. Now my priv1.edb is at 11.7 gig. Here is my question. The cumulative size of all my mailboxes is less than 2 gig. So where is the other 9 + gig coming from?

Thanks

MS exchangeSrvr (non-enterprise) edition limits the size of the info store to 16gb, soon after you reach that limit the xchange services will stop. I think you need to run a defrag on the database to recover the space. its called eseutil run it from the exhcnagesrvr/bin directory with the /? switch.

The 1221 states how much empty space (white space) is in the store. Don't trust mailbox resources to tell you how big the store is. Dan

Want to thank jaksen121 for the off-line defrag tip. My priv1.edb went from 11.7 gigs to 710 megs - wouldn't believe it I didn't see it!

You may notice a performance hit in the short term. It costs performance to make that store bigger on the fly. That's why it's so big because it won't decrease unless you tell it to.

Is there some way I can prevent this in the future? I have the same problem 242513 had.

1251452,

The off-line defrag was really the ticket. I never found out what caused it, but can tell you that it is not re-occurred.

Good luck
