HTTPS Mail problem

hi,
i have a very strange problem, i am unable to use email ids like "asd@asd-asd1.com" the "-" is the keyword here, if i remove the "-" from the email address it works fine. this problem happens only in the https php mail server. any clues?

HTTPS or HTTP only describes the connection between the web server and the client. It has no effect on mail.

Is the domain name which contains the dash a real domain name?
