We currently run Veritas Netbackup Enterprise Server 5 MP6 on a HP-UX 11.11 and are in the process of switching the master server to a AIX server 5.3. The server is built and veritas installed successfully however we were hoping to find out if there is a way to transfer /opt/netbackup/db and other veritas db and files directly to the new aix server. Was there a method of going about this? We wanted to keep all of our setting(policies, schedules, etc) that is on the hp server to transfer to the aix server. Perhaps there is documentation somewhere online that outlines the steps needed to switch from HP-UX to AIX? Any help would be great, thanks.

run bprecover on the catalog tape

Just because the VERITAS documentation states something as certain, that does not make it a fact and that is truth.

Thanks Bob!

Will the bprecover take care of the name change? Actually I should be more clear. Our original master server is called bsun1 and the new master server is called bsun1new. We named it bsun1new only temporarily so we could have it up on the network and install veritas etc. Once we make the final change we are going to rename bsun1new to bsun1(the original master server name). So we are going to keep the original name and original ip address but when we make the change back to bsun1 on the new master server will the bprecover take care of any nb files needing to be renamed to bsun1. For example /usr/openv/volmgr/database/globDB is pointing to bsun1new when we bring that over with bprecover I'm assuming it will point to bsun1? Thanks!

/usr/openv/volmgr/database should be included as a path in the catalog definition. The use of bprecover expects the name of the master server to be the same on the restore side as it was on the backup side.

Thanks,

We will rename the server first, then run bprecover. Thanks again for your help!

We will be migrating from Hp/UX 11i to AIX 5.3 as well.

We will have to change the master server/media server name's to fit AIX naming convention that will be used.

Any info on this?
