I have an Hp scanner 3970 scanjet that when I scan a newspaper article or magazine article and try to send it Email or save it to file it becomes unreadable. At times a whole word gets moved to the bottom of a paragraph or a word may be half italics and half small letters or some of the letters may be missing. The Teck service at HP states that OCR cannot read very good for various reasons. The advice that they have given has not helped so far. This is a new computer with XP on it but this was hooked to my old computer and had the same problem. All drivers have been updated.Everything else on the scanner works fine. Is there an answer to this or is there a better scanner for me to buy that doesn't have this issue

OCR is not 100% at its current stage of development, some software is better than others.

Recomend a good s/w for scanning

Have you tried asking your question at the HP Scanner Forum?

one trick that may help is to put a pieces of plain white paper on top of the newspaper you are scanning.
