I have an HP scanjet 5100c scanner which worked perfectly under Win95. Now trying to get it to work with Win98 and Win98SE. Having no luck with either.

Downloaded the 17mb plus file from the HP site but did not help. Neither did the driver updates.

HP telephone and internet support absolutly no help.

Any ideas?
Thanks

Hi,

YOu could try re-installing the software and drivers. Then goto Control Panels and then goto System, click on the device manager tab, then click on Imaging Device, then select your scanner then click on the properties button, then a new window will open, click on the Driver tab and then click update driver. Tell your computer to automatically find the best possible driver.

If that doesn't work, then back in the device manager click on your scanner and press the remove button. Restart your computer, then upon startup the hardware wizard should pop up asking what you want to do. Tell it to automatically find the drivers, or, if you know the location then specify it and see if it installs it properly.

Hope this helps! NATE

also check for resource conflicts, I had this problem with my HP scanner. Good Luck :)

I have tried blowing everything away and starting over several times. Does not change the results.

Many comment forums on the internet have nothing but complaints about this scanner in relation to Win98. Same problem as mine, OK with Win95, fails to install correctly under Win98.

The new hardware wizard starts up OK but cannot find a whole bunch of files:
hpscnmgr.dll
driver11.cab
hpsj32.dll
hpsjinst.dll
hpsjusd.dll
reg32.dll
hpsjsrc.ds
hpsjrreg.exe
hpsjvxd.vxd
scsimap.sys
scsiscan.sys
Some of the comments I mentioned above recommed holding the ctl key down during the install but this causes my system to hang part way thru the install, requiring use of the reset button.

Now what?????
