I just purchased a new PC with Windows XP Pro. The driver on the CD-Rom for my HP ScanJet 5P will not load. It is too old. I went to the HP website and down loaded the proper XP compatible driver for the scanner but it still does not work. When I try to load the driver I get a pop up window that says

--------------------------------
16 bit Windows Subsystem
--------------------------------
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT. The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application.
---------------------------
Close - Ignore
---------------------------

The PC recognizes the scanner but will not load the drivers so I can't use the scanner. I've tried a few other drivers that were suggested, but I still get the same results

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Lazarus

linney,

Thank you very much, copied and pasted the file an it worked like a charm. I've been posting this problem on other tech websites for the past week with no luck. I was going to give away my scanner and purchase a new one, then my son told me about tek-tips. Once again "I thank you".
