I have just bought a USB HP PSC 1300 all in one printer for my Win98 SE computer. It prints and copies just fine, but whenever I try to scan a picture or document, I get the message "Unable to communicate with hp scanning software".
I have re-installed the software, but to no effect. Any suggestions would be appreciated

Clive

Go to Start/Run, type msconfig, click OK, click the Startup tab, uncheck all entries except System Tray, ScanRegistry, and a firewall(if you use one), click OK, and restart at the prompt.
(Note: You may want to write down all of the entries that you uncheck in case you want to recheck them at a later date)

If no luck with that, then installing the latest version of Internet Explorer may fix the problem.

Thanks Ski,

I followed your trend of thought and discovered that it was my Kapersky anti-virus monitor that was clashing with the hp scanning software. I probably forgot to unload the anti-virus monitor when I installed the scanning software. I'll do a re-install of the scanning software and see if that makes the diff. Otherwise we might have to turn off the avp monitor when scanning.

Thanks once again for your help

Clive

You're welcome.
Glad to hear that you found the cause, and thanks for posting back.
