I have 4 nc6120's. All on xp, sp2, all the usual updates.
When users dock or undock from port replicator, lappie can randomly shut down. Doesnt always happen.

On 1 I removed battery, all mem and reseated, seems to have fixed it.
On another ran bios, still occurred. On this one I then removed and reseated the mem/batt, same problem exists.

So unsure what it is. Cant find anything on HP site.

We have other lappies (dells w/ dock stations), none experience problem.

All on isa server domain(thats surely not the problem :) )

Just curious, what is the reason why the laptops cannot/will not be shut down while docking/undocking? I've used a laptop for ages and never needed to dock or un-dock it while it was running.

Maybe a user would need the lappie for a meeting so they undock without shutting down, a grab-n-go if you will. the lappie is now wireless, apps and mappings and such stay active. Sit right down at meeting and continue working.
This should not be a problem. As stated, we have dells also, we can remove and reseat them at will without troubles, laptops are made to do this.

Now that Im typing this..maybe the wireless has something to do with it...hmmm..

Wireless problems don't usually shut down a PC. Perhaps lock it up for a few minutes, but not to the point of shutdown. My guess, from reading reviews on this system, is the un-docking invokes the HP Mobile Data Protection System that detects dangerous movements while the hard drive is spinning, but this is just a wild guess.

I would recommend to the users as a best practice to Hibernate their laptops, it only adds a few seconds and a lot of safety.

Other than that, a call to HP support might be in order.

Yeah tinkering with wireless didnt fix.
Ill check the hibernate, or see if disabling the DP will help.
