Hi all,

I've got strange prob. when printing 2 copies of my word/excel document, the first doc is printing correctely, the second document not ! all the accents are deleted.

Printer : HP laserjet color 4500 CPL6 driver,
Jetdirect TCP/IP port,
printserver 2000,
client NT4.

Any one have the same weird problem?

Many thanks for your help,

Ely.

On the workstation try this:

(1) Download latest driver for NT from the HP website
unless you have the latest driver and install to
the workstation
(2) (Do this logged in as the Adminstrator of the
workstation)
From the workstation add the printer as local and
during this select to "create new port" and choose
standard TCP/IP port and then create the port and
setup the IP Address of the printer you will be
printing to. And then proceed to install the printer
using the driver you just downloaded.
(3) After the install, login as the user and try to print
the file again with 2 copies and see if this works.

* I have experienced several different types of situations like this printing to HP Network printers. It is related to the driver it is using. Whenever I run into this I create the port on the workstation and print to the network printer this way.

Let me know how you make out.

Here's a star for you zoe. Only thing I would add is get hp web jetadmin from the hp web site. Great stuff and free. Glen A. Johnson

Hi Zoey,

Thanks for the clue :) actually, the client is NT4 so can't create a standart TCP/IP port, but with client W2000. Unless you know how to get round of it :)

Glen,

The Web Jet admin is...terrible (sorry!) I lost a day trying to make it works (Version 6.5) : can't install drivers and finaly after dealing with HP support people, they recommand JetDirect version 3.42 ! which is not on their site anymore, so found on
you are lucky , aren't you?

You should be able to do the following from an NT Workstation computer

(1) Of course, first make sure you download and extract
latest printer drivers
(2) Login as Admin
(3) Add printer. When you have the choice to choose
"My Computer", choose this, don't choose
"Network printer server"
(4) When you click "next", you should have an "Add Port".
What ports do you have available?

I will stop at this point until #4 is answered. You should have a Standard TCP/IP port or some port you can use so you can continue the installation and print to the IP Address of the print server for the HP Printer in question.

Let me know how you make out.

Zoey,

I have as option:
Digital Network Port,
Lexmark DLC Network Port,
Lexmark TCP/IP Network Port,
Local Port.

No Standart TCP/IP port ...

I tryed Lexmark TCP/IP Network Port but when typing the IP address of the Printer, an error message, that printer not found ! probly because of the HP not Lexmark...?

I would try installing the HPSoftware from the HP4500 CD (Hope you have that around somewhere)onto the NT workstation and see if during the install you can specify a port and configure it that way. Usually when you install HP Printer software this creates a port for you. As a test see if this port is available on your NT Server that has the HP4500 printer. If you have an option for the TCP/IP port it means there is software you installed that created this port, probably from the HP Software itself. Or as BenJohnson suggested you could try the Jetadmin software. In short you need to have either a HP Standard TCP/IP port or a Standard TCP/IP port to be able to get the NT Workstation to print to the network print server.

Thanks Zoey,

I have the CD:) - your help is very appreciated,

Best regards and luck,

E.

Sorry to hear you don't have any luck with hpwebjetadmin. I just finished installing 3 more printers using it. No problem.

Glen,

I have used Jetadmin myself with no problems as well.
