The macro that I am using with a HP Laser Jet 3SI printer with the PCL5 enhancement, is not working correctly. Are there any tools available to debug the macro. Something like a trace on the marco or a way to step through the macro om order to see what it (the macro) is doing and the sequence of events.

Thanks for any help

In what respect is your macro NOT working?

There are programs that will "disassemble" PCL code
to disceet elements and labeled as to what the code does, but I can't remember any names. I had one a while back.

Because PCL is interpreted, can you not work out how far
it worked properly and start your search there?

The macro runs to completion, but.
When I run the macro in overlay mode, the font is reduced and the character height is changed. I want to step through the macro to determine where this happens.

Thanks.

If the font is the wrong size, only in overlay mode, then I would guess that you have not specified the font within the overlay itself. How much too small is the text?

An overlay "lives" in its own environment and reverts to many default values rather than those in the environment that "calls" the overlay.

If you stip off all the macro stuff from the macro and just print it as a PCL job, I would guess you will see what you see on the overlay.

How was the overlay created? Did you write it by hand or is it the modified output of some other program?
