We recently bought one of these printers and it has broken before the cartridges even needed replacing (just). Seems the user had a paper jam (or the printer just malfunctioned) but now the jam wont clear. There is no paper in the machine, nothing seems to be jammed and everything is running without hinderance.

Is there anyway to "reset" these printers? Ive fixed a couple of older printers this way by holding down buttons in a certain way/order to clear problems.

If it says there is a jam.... a reset isn't going to clear it... I bet you have a jam you can't see...

Pull out the trays if you can and look around.. open the top and look around.. remove the back panel and look around...

it only takes a small piece of paper to create a jam

Nah there definately isnt a jam, its all clean and clear, there isnt much to the printer in that department and both me and my colleague have had a look.

I know that on some HP printers, the paper sensor is an emitter/detector pair that has the beam "broken" by the paper sensor lever.

Paper dust, or a small scrap of paper in the beam is usually the culprit; although the e/d pair aren't above "burning out".

Make sure you can *physically see* the paper sensor, where it goes, and if it's breaking a beam on the e/d pair. If you don't find a scrap of paper blocking the beam, try blowing out the sensor with compressed air.

Hi,

I too am going through this exact problem as we speak. I believe I finally have got a solution.

I phoned HP told them the problem. They said printer was faulty and send me a re-furbished one through their warranty exchange program. I received it. It works great!, but there's always a but! My Original printer was 1.5months old and brand new. The one they sent me was well as I said. It had a couple of dents on silver cover and scratches. Phoned HP told them what happened. The guy told me to send it back. He also asked have I tried the "HP PAPER FEED CLEANING KIT" on my original printer? I said no. He said try it before you send back other one. He sent it to me, no charge. I got it. Followed instructions, and I'm happy to say 3 days later printer seems fine now. I'm going to try it through the weekend and see how it goes. It looks like my problem is solved! I hope!

Cheers,

Roger

Oh as an added message there's nothing jammed or anything the problem lies with the roller mechanism. Its not anyhting your doing!!!

One thing that occurs with these units when there is a supposed "paper jam" or "carriage error" is the service station has a glitch. It could be there is a load of ink preventing movement, or a motor failure. Check the service station for a large pile of ink and remove. A lot of newer units have a side panel for access. This is one of the few parts HP will let go of, even though many parts are listed.
Turn on unit, and open top cover. When carriage moves, pull the plug. You can then slide the carriage easily, and look into the service station.
