Hi Guys, I'm having a debate with Nortel ref HP COTS Server. I'm just using it as a straight Signaling Server but I need Element Manager as I have no CP PM Servers. I have only been sent the Rls 5.5 Sig Server Application CD. The NTP is really obtuse about the install as one NTP says boot from the Sig Server CD and another NTP says that if Element Manager is required you need Red Hat Base software installed first. Does anyone know who is correct?

Regards

Chris

The Linux version is only if you're using EM from the ECM (Enterprise Common Manager)otherwise if you're using just the plain jane isp1100 SS - then install it from the boot-image cd - you'll have to make it yourself after downloading the sw from nortel.

Linux version was introduced in Release 5.0 and it is RedHat Linux, but Nortel provide the support for it not RedHat.

Thanks Guys. I have been supplied with a SS Apllication Boot disk x 3, all of them fail at the same place.....just get the boot up screen that then freezes. I have logged on to the Nortel site however the only Sig Server there for anything other then CP-PM CPIV etc is the ISP1100 Software, I have HP COTS Servers.....any ideas?

COTS server! Guys this is the way Nortel is heading! We all need to learn the Linux OS. Release 6 is going to use the COTS as I was told. Right now the COTS is being used in 5.0 for ECM. I just went to the 5.5 Upgrade class for techs and this was touched on. The instructor advised us that rel 6 was going to be COTS.

Also Global Knowedge Nortel instructors will need to become Microsoft MCSE to instruct on this. So we all might want to think MCSE as part of our education going forward.

Not sure what you mean by boot disks? You just load the image CD and it will self install - SSISP1100_55012.iso

Stuff to check
1.Make sure you are plugged into the rear of the SS, not the front.
2. Also make sure you burned the image CD at a slow rate, like 2x
3. You will need 1 gig of memory installed, but that should not affect the install.

Let us know how you make out

You must connect to the rear serial port on the COTS server. You do not use the keyboard monitor and mouse. You load it just like the ISP1100. As a matter of face I carry an old cable from the ISP1100 just for that purpose.

You will need a nul modem cable for this as you are going from PC to PC.
