Hi,

I am so frustrated with this darn printer. I have an HP lasjet 1100 and although the drivers installs correctly it just will not print. I have removed the driver and downloaded the latest one from microsoft but to no avail. I have also just installed XP SP 2 hoping that would fix it but again, no.

When i print it goes to the spooler and then disappears. The printy says ready. I have checked the event viewer and it reports nothing.

Any ideas as i just cannot work it out.

Cheers

dzon,
printer hooked directly to PC or over a network?

ah, forgot to mention that. it is hooked up directly via the parallel port - lpt1

cheers

dzon,
are you sure that the cable is ok?
are you sure that the board on the printer is ok?
can you print out a config sheet from the printer?
regards,
longhair

well, it used to be attached to a print server and was working fine. I decided to remove this device as the person that used to share the printer got a new printer. We have also changed IP subnets.

I thought it would be a quick and simple procedure. I removed the cable from the print server, plugged it into the computer;the new hardware wizard popped up and said "new hardware installed and ready to use" I am using LPT1 port.

Hmmm, could LPT1 be corrupted?

I will try and install the printer on another computer.

cheers

Go into the system BIOS and make sure that your Bi-Directional comm to the printer port is configured correctly.

Hope this helps...

If the printer has a USB connection you could try that instead. Also try the HP driver from their web site instead of the Microsoft one.

Hi Guys,

I have tried everything but to no avail. I hooked my laptop up to the printer and it installed imediately. I think I will just reinstall XP.

Thanks for your input

Cheers

Let us know if you get it to work...

Again...Have you checked the system BIOS settings?
