Hello,

my boss asked me to make an option in my logon script so that every user gets and additional button on the default word bar called "internal Documents" under that button should come some documents stored on a share on one of my servers.

after some searching i came to the conclusion the best way would be to do it with macro's, that i can manage.
i also know its stored in normal.dot. however i rather not overwrite normal.dot during logon due to some users have their own adjustments in their normal.dot and by overwriting it would kill their settings.

i would like to have some help getting me started with an vbscript that i can attach to my logon script so that when a user logs on he / she gets the proper script so the desired button appears when they start Word 2003.

Use the macro recorder. Start a recording then manually do the setup. Then stop the recording and edit the macro to see the code it generated.

I hope you find this post helpful.

Regards,

Mark

i wouldnt update normal.dot either,....you want an addin, there is a folder where you can put addins so that when word is opened it auto loads these in the background....i didnt something similar with a corporate colour scheme update

sorry but this action i cannot use, i need an option to automate it for 186 users.

i think you missunderstand me.
you create your own .dot file, this .dot file has the code to add a menu item in the OnLoad sub of the .dot file. this .dot file is copied to the startup folder of winword. therefore you get every user to have it when they open word but you have dont it without the need to touch normal.dot

trust me this is the approach, there is a white paper on it from MS. I did this about 4 years ago in an environment of 9000 machines
