You need to start with Chapter 12 of the Oracle Application Developer's Guide - Fundamentals. If you don't have access to hard copy of the Oracle documentation or an install CD set (which includes the documentation), you can find all the Oracle manuals online at the Oracle Technology Network site. You have to sign up for access, but it is free. The 8i documenation URL is:
