i needHelp how to use outlook and need to know the advantage it has over other web based emails like yahoomail.

1) Outlook Express which comes with W2K or
2) Microsoft Outlook which comes with Microsoft Office

For starters Outlook isn't web based. So you don't need to be online to use it. You need to be online to check mail, but many of its other features (depending on whether you mean Outlook Express or MS Outlook) can be used off-line. Calendar, Address Book, etc..

Anyway, you obviously don't have to worry about storage limits like you do with web based email services, since all mails are stored in your hard drive. As long as there is hard drive space you can store emails.

Outlook has more diverse filtering mechanisms, and you can check more than one email account at the same time.


For more specifics you need to tell us which Outlook version you are talking about. Outlook Express, or Ms Outlook.

Since they have radically different features.

And you need a special type of email account, POP3 or IMAP to use Outlook.

The only disadvantage I've found is that if you do a download on one machine, the others cannot see it unless you have an exchange server setup. Alternatively on a home network, only allow specific machines/users to download from specific mailboxes.

As vacunita said, you are not limited by your isp. I've got emails dating back to 1998 when I first started playing with the net. Quite amusing reading some of the old stuff: a bit like a diary.

i mean both ms outlook and outlook express

well there you go. both owrk in a similar fashion. however Ms Outlook has quite a few more features than Outlook Express (OE).

OE is like a light version of Ms Outlook. without the calendar and other workgroup features. OE can however blend in with your Messenger account, and display the status and emails of your contacts.

Ms Outlook is a full featured organizer. With calendar, appointment book. email manager, note taker etc..
