How to Upgrade Director 4.12 to 4.2

Hi all,

I was wondering if someone could outline the steps invovled in upgrading a Director 4.12 installation to 4.2 Is it possible to do without losing all the groups and event plans from the original install?

I've heard there are some programs you can run from the command line to backup your configuration, but I can't find anything out about them. Any info out there?
